Sort your iPhone photos month by month
Rollmark groups your camera roll into months and opens the swipe deck on the most recent one. Each month shows how many photos are left and turns into a green check when you finish. A session ends at a month boundary, which keeps it short enough to actually complete.

How does the Months screen work?
The Months tab lists years, newest first, and each year is a row of month cards. A card shows a cover photo, the photo count with an estimated size, and a status chip: a percentage once you started, a green check when the month is sorted, a gold mark when you picked the best photo.
Tap an unsorted month to open the deck. Tap a sorted month to open its recap.
What does the first session look like?
The welcome screen shows three fanned photo cards and the line "One month at a time". After you allow photo access, the deck opens straight on the current month with a short how-to sheet: right keeps, left lets go, up marks. When you finish, the review list leads to the iOS confirmation and then to the month recap with your marked photo and your first streak day.
Nothing is asked of you before that first deck. The paywall never appears at launch.
What does the Continue card do?
At the top of Months a Continue card shows the next undecided photo as its cover, the month name, how many photos are left, and a progress bar. One tap returns you to the exact place you stopped. Decisions are saved by photo id after every swipe, so closing the app mid-month loses nothing.
What if my library is huge?
Rollmark reads your library with a loading screen that counts photos as it goes. After that, the work is split by month, so the size of the library only changes how many months you have, and each session stays the same size.
iCloud-only photos show as thumbnails, and you do not need to download the full file to decide on a photo.
What if I only gave access to some photos?
Limited access is supported. Rollmark works with the photos you selected, shows a banner on Months, and offers "Add more" through the system picker. It also tells iOS to skip the automatic limited-access alert at launch.
What are the empty and finished states?
When every month is sorted, the Months tab says "Every month is sorted". If the library is empty, it says "No photos yet". A banner appears when photos are waiting in the let-go list, with the count and an estimated size, and a Review button that opens all of them at once, grouped by month.
The free line near the top shows how many free swipes are left today, and a small Pro badge leads to the paywall if you want the limit removed.
What happens at the end of a month?
If you kept at least one photo and have not marked one yet, Rollmark asks you to mark the month. Then the recap shows photos reviewed, kept, let go, an estimated size and your streak. A streak counts days you sorted something, and a missed day simply restarts it.
Why does month size matter?
Long runs of similar choices wear you down. After a hundred near-identical photos, decisions start to feel arbitrary. A month gives the run a limit, and Rollmark shows how many photos are left, so you can see when the end is near and stop at a month boundary.
Who is month-by-month sorting for?
It suits anyone whose library is too big to face in one go. A backlog of several years looks like one huge task in a flat scroll. As a row of month cards it becomes a list of small jobs, each with a finish line.
How does it compare with scrolling through Photos?
Photos shows every picture in date order, but it does not remember which ones you already judged, and it has no end point. Rollmark keeps a decision for each photo, shows a percentage on each month card and gives you the Continue card to resume. You can scroll and delete in Photos with the same result in the library, but you track your own progress.
Any tips for staying consistent?
- Start with the current month, since you remember it best.
- Set a time box, such as ten minutes, and stop at the end even mid-month.
- Turn on the daily reminder if a fixed cue helps.
- Review the let-go list at the end of a session, not after every swipe.
Which settings change how sorting feels?
Settings holds the language (System, English or Russian), a daily reminder, haptics and whether photos appear on share cards. The reminder is one local notification a day at 9:00 or 20:00, and Rollmark asks for notification permission only when you switch it on.
Frequently asked questions
Can I sort an older month first?
Yes. You can open any month from the Months tab. The deck opens on the current month by default because it is the freshest to decide on.
Are the photo sizes exact?
No. iOS does not expose file sizes to the app, so Rollmark estimates them from pixel dimensions and video length. Every size in the app is labeled "about".
What happens if I close the app halfway through a month?
Nothing is lost. Each decision is stored by photo id after the swipe, and the Continue card brings you back to the next undecided photo.
Does Rollmark sort every photo in the library?
It shows your library month by month, and you decide as many photos as you like. Free allows 150 swipe decisions a day, and Pro removes that limit.
